Jörg Lornsen translates his concentrated observations into the field of fine art. In his studio, he constructs vibrant cosmoi out of bold colour, seeking to generate what he calls the “true and authentic image”- a position he defines as that of a “reporter of the present.” His practice interrogates the act of observation itself: the recording of optical impressions is repeatedly tested and reconfigured. For some time, Lornsen has inscribed the accompanying processes of thought into his iconic signature. The phrase “seeing that sees itself” has been elevated to a symbol and, as a distinctive mark, has become an integral element of his visual language.
With a background in education and sociology, Lornsen nonetheless developed as a self-taught artist. Even before the age of ten, he was immersed in illustrated art books – a formative foundation for his later practice. His earliest works as a freelance artist emerged in 2017, marking the beginning of a consistent body of work. Alongside art, music plays a significant and enduring role in his life.
